A complete bedroom design for a young child, created with equal attention to play, study, and sleep. The design makes every square metre count — maximizing storage, creating distinct activity zones, and selecting materials that are safe, durable, and genuinely delightful from a child's perspective.
What the Client Needed
- Create a space that sparks imagination and actively supports creative play
- Design age-appropriate storage that the child can use and maintain independently
- Use non-toxic, certified child-safe materials throughout
- Create a calming sleep environment within an otherwise playful room
- Design a space that evolves comfortably as the child grows
The Groundwork
Child development research supports the instinct behind the brief: children benefit from spaces designed specifically for them — at their scale, with their sensory experience in mind. The most effective children's rooms balance stimulation in activity zones with genuine calm in sleep zones.
The Idea
"Sized for Wonder" — a room designed from a child's eye level, where everything is accessible, every corner invites exploration, and the space itself feels like the beginning of an adventure.
What We Faced
- Creating distinct play and sleep zones within a single compact room
- Designing storage that children can genuinely use and maintain independently
- Choosing colors and materials that are stimulating without being overwhelming
How We Solved It
- Used a floor material change and ceiling detail to distinguish sleep from play zones without a physical divider
- Designed low-level storage at child height with clear, simple compartments
- Built the color palette around one strong accent color with soft neutral tones in the sleep zone
