A fully immersive gaming universe where the room is part of the game
A dedicated gaming room designed for a young client who wanted a space that fully committed to the world of gaming. The room features a professional-grade racing simulator, PlayStation and Pac-Man neon art installations, a race-track-inspired epoxy floor, and a ceiling designed with LED strip lighting in a geometric circuit-board pattern. Dark and immersive, it is a room that does exactly what it is supposed to: make gaming feel like an experience, not just an activity.
What the Client Needed
- Create a fully dedicated gaming environment, not a bedroom with gaming accessories
- Install a professional racing simulator as the centrepiece of the room
- Design custom neon art that reflects genuine gaming culture
- Create an immersive atmosphere through lighting, colour, and material choices
- Incorporate a built-in display and storage wall for gaming equipment
The Groundwork
Research into dedicated gaming spaces and esports environments identified that the most effective designs commit entirely to the world they are referencing. Half-measures result in rooms that feel neither like a home nor a proper gaming space. Dark wall tones, controllable RGB lighting, and thematic floor graphics are the three elements that most reliably create full immersion.
The Idea
"Into the Game" — a room that exists on the boundary between interior design and set design. When you step inside, the real world recedes. The race track floor, the neon art, and the simulator all work together to make gaming feel like entering another dimension.
What We Faced
- Creating genuine immersion without the space feeling oppressive or claustrophobic
- Integrating a large racing simulator without it dominating at the expense of all other functions
- Designing lighting that can shift between gaming mode and everyday use
How We Solved It
- Used dark walls and a low ceiling line detail to draw the eye inward rather than upward, creating a cockpit-like sense of focus
- Positioned the simulator against the feature neon wall so it reads as a designed element rather than equipment placed in a room
- Designed the LED system with multiple pre-set scenes — gaming, ambient, sleep — operated via a single controller
