Kitchen & Sitting Area
The social heart of the home, designed for real living
An integrated kitchen and sitting area design for a family apartment in Nablus. The project combines a fully functional kitchen with a connected dining and relaxing zone — a flowing social space where cooking, eating, and spending time together happen in natural proximity.
What the Client Needed
- Create an open-plan kitchen and sitting area that works for a busy family
- Maximize kitchen storage while keeping the aesthetic clean and uncluttered
- Design a sitting zone that flows naturally from the kitchen
- Choose durable materials that withstand daily family use
- Achieve a warm, modern look that does not feel cold or clinical
The Groundwork
Study of open-plan living revealed that the most successful spaces carefully manage the visual and sensory boundary between cooking and relaxing zones. Consistent material language, good ventilation planning, and independently controllable lighting zones are all critical to making the combination work.
The Idea
"The Gathering Space" — where meals are prepared and shared, conversations happen, and daily family life unfolds. A design that prioritises connection over division.
What We Faced
- Creating a visual separation between cooking and living zones without a physical wall
- Maximizing kitchen storage in a compact footprint while keeping clear counter space
- Selecting flooring that performs practically in a kitchen and looks beautiful in a living area
How We Solved It
- Used a ceiling treatment change and different lighting zones to define areas without barriers
- Designed a full-height cabinetry wall to compensate for the compact kitchen base run
- Specified a large-format ceramic tile that bridges both zones in a single continuous surface
