Contemporary Outdoor Living Garden
A multi-zone residential landscape uniting a water feature, outdoor kitchen, lounge terrace, and vertical gardens
This contemporary residential garden transforms an underutilised outdoor area into a fully programmed living extension of the home. The design weaves together a tranquil reflective pool, a professional outdoor kitchen and BBQ station, a sheltered lounge terrace, and lush vertical planting into a seamless sequence of spaces. Geometric laser-cut metal screens reference traditional Arabic lattice patterns while anchoring the modern architectural language. Layered lighting extends the garden's usability from daytime retreat to atmospheric evening venue.
What the Client Needed
- Create a private outdoor entertaining space suitable for family gatherings and hosting guests
- Incorporate a feature water element to bring calm and visual interest to the main garden wall
- Provide a fully equipped outdoor kitchen and BBQ area without compromising on aesthetics
- Integrate abundant greenery — bamboo, tropical plants, and vertical gardens — for privacy and shade
- Achieve a design that feels equally impressive and inviting after dark through ambient and accent lighting
The Groundwork
The design process began with a study of the site's microclimate, sun trajectory, and prevailing breezes to position each zone for maximum seasonal comfort. Regional precedents in contemporary Arab residential landscaping were reviewed to identify how geometric screen patterns and water features could be reinterpreted in a modern idiom. Plant selection prioritised species proven to thrive in the Nablus climate — bamboo for screening, ornamental grasses for texture, and hardy tropical foliage for the vertical wall panels.
The Idea
"Living Screens" — layering nature, geometry, and light to create a private garden world that breathes with the rhythm of its owners.
What We Faced
- Integrating a functional outdoor kitchen without visually overpowering the garden's green, natural character
- Designing a lighting scheme that shifts atmosphere from bright and fresh during the day to warm and intimate at night
- Achieving privacy from neighbouring properties while maintaining openness to sky and breeze across a compact footprint
How We Solved It
- The outdoor kitchen was positioned against the perimeter wall and framed by decorative laser-cut screens, reading as an architectural element rather than a utilitarian appliance block
- A layered lighting system combining recessed ground uplights, bidirectional wall sconces, and low bollard path lights provides full scene-control flexibility
- Vertical green wall panels, tall bamboo groves, and strategic pergola louvres create a canopy of privacy that filters rather than blocks the sky
