Private Room
A personal sanctuary designed for calm and intimacy
A private room design focused on intimacy and calm. The brief called for a compact, personal space that feels complete and considered — a room that belongs entirely to its occupant and reflects their character through carefully chosen materials, lighting, and furnishings.
What the Client Needed
- Create a room that feels uniquely personal and reflects the occupant's character
- Maximize the sense of space within a compact footprint
- Achieve a calming atmosphere through palette and lighting choices
- Design integrated storage that keeps the room visually clean
The Groundwork
Research into compact room design shows that careful proportion, layered lighting, and a restrained palette can make even small rooms feel considered and complete. The key is specificity — each element chosen deliberately rather than generically.
The Idea
"Personal Sanctuary" — a room stripped of everything unnecessary, leaving only what matters. The design creates a strong sense of place through the quality of its materials rather than the quantity of its elements.
What We Faced
- Achieving a sense of luxury and completeness within a compact room volume
- Balancing storage needs with a clean, uncluttered aesthetic
How We Solved It
- Used built-in joinery to contain all storage within the wall plane, preserving floor space and visual calm
- Selected a single confident material for the feature element, with all supporting choices in quiet neutrals
